Fact Sheet 9 - Ford Transit / Ranger / Landrover - Critical oil change after replacing turbo

Application:
Ford Transit 2.2L / 2.4L
Ford Ranger 2.2L
LandRover 2.2L / 2.4L

WHEN FITTING THIS TURBO, IT IS CRITICAL THAT THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS ARE ADHERED TO:

The sump should be removed and cleaned, then a new oil strainer, oil feed pipe and engine oil pump fitted. After 160 kilometres, change the oil and filter.

The oil feed system to the turbocharger has a tendency to become restricted over time. Most failures of this turbocharger are caused by abrasives in the oil which collect in the system. Performing the above actions will minimise the risk of the new turbocharger being damaged.

There is a known recall issue with the engine oil pump for vehicles between 2011 and 2013. Please replace the oil engine pump and tube assembly in addition to replacing the above items - the original pump may be at increased risk of wear which can result in reduced oil pressure leading to premature turbo failure.

Note: from data received, we have seen an increase in returned turbochargers with this issue.
