How to Identify Your Turbo Part Number

How to Identify Your Turbo Part Number

Finding the correct turbocharger for your vehicle starts with identifying the right turbo part number. Many vehicles can use different turbochargers depending on the engine, production year, model variation, or factory specification, so identifying the turbo correctly before ordering can save time and avoid fitment issues.

At Turbo Pros, there are 2 easy ways to help us confirm the correct turbocharger for your vehicle.

Method 1: Provide Your Vehicle Information

The easiest option is to send us your vehicle details.

You can provide either:

  • Vehicle Registration (Rego)
  • VIN Number

Your VIN contains important information about the vehicle and can help us narrow down the correct turbocharger application.

For Australian vehicles, providing your rego may also allow us to check the vehicle details and identify the correct turbo.

However, some vehicles may have multiple turbocharger options, so we may still ask for the turbo part number or a photo of the original turbo to confirm fitment.

Method 2: Find the Turbo Name Plate

The most accurate way to identify a turbocharger is often by checking the identification plate or engraved number on the turbo itself.

Depending on the manufacturer, the turbo may have a metal name plate, sticker, stamped number, or engraved identification.

Common turbocharger manufacturers include:

  • Garrett
  • BorgWarner
  • Mitsubishi / MHI
  • IHI
  • Holset

Look around the compressor housing or centre housing for the turbo identification plate.

Once you locate it, take a clear photo showing all numbers on the plate and send it to us.

For example, the BorgWarner turbo shown in our identification guide has the part number:

53039700168

This number allows us to cross-reference the turbo and confirm the correct replacement.

Turbo Part Number vs OEM Part Number

It is important to understand that the turbocharger part number and vehicle OEM part number are not always the same.

For example, a turbo may have:

Turbo Part Number:
53039700168

OEM Part Number:
1118100-ED01A

Both numbers can be useful when searching for a replacement turbocharger.

A turbo may also have several superseded or interchangeable part numbers, which is why matching only one number found online is not always enough to guarantee fitment.

What If I Can't Find the Number?

Don't worry if you cannot locate the turbo part number.

Simply send us a few clear photos of your turbocharger, preferably from several different angles. Our team can check the turbo design, housings, actuator and other identifying features to help determine the correct unit.

For the fastest identification, send us:

  1. Rego or VIN
  2. Photo of the turbo name plate or part number
  3. Several photos of the complete turbo, if the number cannot be found

The clearer the information, the easier it is for us to confirm the correct replacement turbocharger.
